The temple is also a Zen Buddhist temple founded in 1334. Visitors can enjoy walking around bamboo forest and beautiful dry landscape garden as well as matcha tee at the wooden rest house.
This Shinto shrine was established in 1063 by Minamoto Yoritomo who was the founder of Kamakura Shogunate which was the first warrior government in the Japanese history. So the shrine had been regarded as a protector shrine of the warrior families and now the most symbolic sightseeing spots in Kamakura.
Visitors can enjoy shopping traditional souvenirs and Japanese sweets.
An outdoor bronze statue of Amida Buddha standing on the ground of Kotokuin Temple. With the height of 13.35meters, it is the second largest Buddha statue in Japan.
The temple is an independent temple established in 736 and regarded as sister temple of Hasedera Temple of Nara because the same statues of eleven-headed Kannon are enshrined. Various kinds of flowers are enjoyed and breathtaking panorama of Pacific Ocean is commanded at the observation deck.

If you are looking for a great day trip outside Tokyo, Yoshi curated a terrific one day itinerary. Not only did we see three temples and a shrine, we experienced drinking matcha in a bamboo forest, learned about Shinto and Buddhism, strolled through gorgeous gardens, and were educated us on how to eat cold soba noodles with tempura properly. He also helped us navigate the subway and bus system with multiple transfers, which we would have had difficulty with otherwise. We saw and did and learned so much more than we could have on our own. We could not recommend Yoshi more highly!
Hi Eric, thank you for your warm message. I am very honored to hear that you enjoyed my tour. Have a nice trip in Japan! Yoshi
Yoshi communicated with us well in the lead up to our tour and was well prepared with insights to share. He helped us find vegetarian food options. enabling us to have our first authentic Japanese meal so far (delicious soba). Kamakura locations have many stairs. So be aware of this if you have mobility issues. There is still a lot to enjoy even without doing all of the climbs.
Hi Alison, Thank you for your warm message. Sorry for many stairs and walking. I was so happy with you. Your sons are well educated to be polite and nice. Please enjoy the rest of your trip in Japan! Yoshi
Yoshi was a very fun and very informative guide. He waited patiently whenever we had to stop for pictures and gave us a very detailed history of every location we visited. Our group felt very comfortable asking any questions we had throughout the tour. Even beforehand, I asked and gave details about my ideal tour and Yoshi was ready with a plan to discuss within hours. I appreciate all the hard work and thought that went into this tour! Thank you, Yoshi, for being a wonderful guide
Hi Jaciel, Thank you for your warm message. Please enjoy your trip in Japan! best regards, Yoshi
Yoshi is an amazing guide! We learned a lot from him from taking the confusing subway to the cultural history of Japan. He also made a great recommendation where to buy the best and affordable Wagyu akd oyster. Thank you Yoshi!!!
Hi Kristine, Thank you for your warm message. I also enjoyed being with you. I hope you can get to Kamakura and have a traditional atmosphere and beach. Yoshi
