The coastal city of Nafplio is one of the most pittoresque and historical places of Greece. It was the first capital of the country and it's associated to some of the darkest moments in modern Greek history, including the assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first head of state of independent Greece. In the area we now find Nafplio, a settlement existed for thousands of years, as early as the 2nd millenium b. c.

We walk around the city and we visit many of its monuments, including the museum and the first parliament of Greece. We also stroll towards the port so you can take some photos of the sea, with the islet of Bourtzi in the background
we drive towards Palamidi castle that overlooks the city of Nafplio
After seeing the castle we return to the city and we head towards the peninsula of Acronauplia. We walk around the headland, seeing the Venetian fortifications and appreciating the great view of the sea
We return to the center of Nafplio so you can have a lunch in a traditional Greek tavern
We take a boat and we pay a visit to the fortified islet of Bourtzi, which was built by the Venetians and was used as a prison in modern times
We return to Nafplio and we pay a last visit to the Komboloi museum, the only one of its kind in Greece. A komboloi is a string of beads, manipulated with one or two hands and used to pass time in Greek culture

Ioannis was an excellent guide who provided an engaging tour at Mycenae and Epidaurus. I would be pleased to go on a tour with him again!
